Q: I don't know what to do in Valley of the Dying Things (the first scenario). Is there a walkthrough?
A: Yes. It's in the file "Blades of Avernum Manual.pdf", in Chapter 12: Hint Book for the Demo.
Q: Oh no! I killed the Chief Spider in VoDT and now I can't complete the scenario! Is there anything I can do?
A: Yes. First and foremost, the best thing to do is to leave the town, go to another town -- not just an outdoor section, but another *town* -- and then reset the towns in the Character Editor. Back up your save file before you do this, obviously. Save changes, and come back to the Administration Level. Hopefully, the Chief Spider should be back.
For unknown reasons, sometimes this doesn't work. If it doesn't, you can just give yourself the item that you need directly in the Character Editor. It's item number 478, the Opening Stone (NOT the special item Opening Stone).
Q: I think I've done everything in the scenario, and I found the main controls in Major Waste, but they don't seem to do anything. I get a message that says, "You need to find a way to activate the panel. Based on what you have seen here, this must be done somewhere else." Where do I go?
A: Get to the Experiment Halls. If you know how to do that, skip to the last paragraph of this answer. Otherwise, go to the Student Quarters in the entrance to lower part of the school. Make your way to the center of the southern wall via the east part of the town. (If you don't have the Silver Key yet, go to the far southwestern corner of the town and walk along the shelves until you find it.) Pass the doors into the room with two stairs in the southeast corner and take the right-most one. This will put you in the Libraries.
Head straight east down the main hallway. At the end, head south down the stairway. This will put you in the Experiment Halls.
Now work your way southwest into the large open area, and head south. Pass an elevated area and a bunch of chairs, turning west, and then head south. There will be an obelisk that says, "TO MAIN CONTROL CHAMBER." Continue that way, exiting the Experiment Halls to the south. Work your way through the tunnels that follow, and you'll find the place to activate the controls.
Q: Where's the drake fang that Zorvas wants?
A: In a hidden passage near Blinlock. Head due north from the southeast corner of the mountains near Blinlock until you hit the northern wall of the valley. Go east until you find the next small crevice in the wall. The fang is behind a secret passage there.
